When something feels familiar, it becomes a metaphorical chain

Giordano Chirieleison

 Vision

I am an artist whose work explores the tension between stability and chaos, reflecting a deeply personal understanding of self-destruction, freedom, and the pursuit of infinite possibility. I create work utilising materials that are often forgotten about or simply wasted, bringing life to the lifeless.

I describe my creative process as a constant cycle, where the act of completing an art piece feels like an irreversible chain that must be broken to make space for new beginnings. As part of my work I focus on four key themes, landscape, abstract, minimalism, and figurative pieces.

Landscape

Travel is an act of change, courage, and imagination, a continuous journey through the unfolding narrative of life. It means letting go, embracing the unexpected, and accepting what’s placed before you. In many ways, painting landscapes with recycled paints and ink, without any visual reference, mirrors that same spirit. It’s like setting off with a one-way ticket to an unknown destination.

The world is yours to discover.

Each time I begin a new painting, I’m met with an open space - the unknown. It’s a euphoric feeling, full of potential. My hand begins to move instinctively, guided not by plan but by impulse, as if the brush itself chooses the path. With every mark made and each colour that finds its place, something new and unexpected emerges. The canvas becomes a journey in itself.

Abstract

There’s so much of the world to take in,  in the forms of our bodies, in the spaces we inhabit. The fragile, shifting beauty of shapes, constantly altered by time and the ever-changing light, never ceases to surprise. We live among abundance, chaos, and deep complexity. To be alive and witness the constant evolution of our lives is a profound privilege.

In my work, I use recycled paints and ink to explore these themes. The materials themselves carry a sense of history and transformation, helping me express a quiet melancholy, a reflection of the world’s contours, both seen and felt.

Minimalism

When was the last time you truly felt at home, not just in a place, but in a moment, a painting, or a feeling that stirred a deep sense of belonging? I realised long ago that home, for me, would never be a fixed location. It is an ever-shifting moment, fleeting and unpredictable. In the most unexpected places, I’ve heard the quiet music of being alive, something that stirs, sways, and reawakens my sense of humanity.

To be fully present in that moment - that’s the real challenge. It demands focus, the ability to disconnect from the noise, and then reconnect with intention.

Exploration draws me closer to beauty in my work, not just aesthetic beauty, but the layered stillness of life and the raw pulse of reality. But I often ask: why do we feel the need to fill every empty space? In my paintings, I deliberately leave parts unfinished, open. These spaces breathe. They invite the viewer to step in, to contribute, to imagine. Through simple shapes and minimal gestures, I open a door, and leave it ajar.

Figurative

In my figurative work, the subjects often appear distant, as if chasing a thought or tracing the outline of a memory across the horizon. Whether human or object, each figure carries an abstract presence, shaped by impression rather than precision. I’m drawn to the tension between detail and suggestion,  combining finely rendered elements with rough, stylised backgrounds. Pencil lines meet ink washes and bold brushstrokes, creating contrasts that speak to both clarity and chaos.

I don’t believe anything in this world will ever be perfect, and perhaps that’s where the beauty lies. There’s something powerful in pausing to observe what’s still in progress. The unfinished invites us to slow down, to reflect, and to appreciate the quiet poetry of becoming. The road ahead is winding, uncertain. Yet it’s full of wonder, and full of possibility.
